Web Design.?

What is the difference between doing web design through a graphics design course, or doing web design through a IT course.

  1. I think the graphics side is more 'web design' and the IT side is 'web development'. The development side is more technical like using PHP etc, where as the design side is things like using Flash.
  2. Difference is simply if u do through a graphic side then u r a web(page) designer.if u do through a IT then u r a web developer. according to me better go through IT side coz if u kno how to develop then u can learn easly design..
  3. I've taken courses in "web design" in both the Digital Arts and Computer Science departments of a community college. The CS versions covered server side programming (Perl, ASP, PHP, and database programming); the DA courses covered the use of web design programs (Go Live, Dreamweaver), image optimization, and Flash "programming" (though that was beyond most of the students). Actually, I found both lacking -- neither covered navigational structure or CSS at all, and the "Arts" version didn't cover anything about the looks/legibility of the web pages (though they did touch on "Web safe" colors, as if that's anything to worry about these days.) I think they assumed you had the "graphic design" part down from previous courses, but those courses weren't prerequisites. So I would say that if you're doing it from a graphic design perspective, you're going to be concerned with the looks and bells and whistles, while if you're doing it from the CS side, there will be more programming. If your ultimate goal is to be able to "do it all" on small websites, you'll need both (along with a lot of other stuff); if you want to work as a team member on larger sites, concentrate on where you're strongest.
